History: Wiki page which does well for an overview of events through the canon timeline and is a little more brief about the events beforehand. These were expanded in written up extras and shown during episode 7 of the anime.

Shizuo's family was considered very average, 'very loving' in his own words when explaining his past to Celty (Episode 7.) It was while he was in elementary school that his younger brother had eaten a pudding cup with Shizuo's name on it that things changed. That is to say, without realizing it he had found himself in a rage and holding the refrigerator over his head. Except those are really heavy and when realizing what he did, he dropped it and shattered bones in several areas, including the pelvic and neck bones. It was his little brother, Kasuka, who told him to stay still and called the ambulance. His brother forgave him and one of his friends was fascinated, but it was a change that had stayed.

Eventually Shizuo healed well enough to get back to school, but the violent temper would still come up from small provocations. Usually those would be from his classmates, who had taken to occasionally joked and teased him. Which led to him lifting and doing something his body couldn't handle and more bones being broken. Repeat ad nauseam. Always walking to school and back home with a cast somewhere was eventually noticed by a bakery employee. Being concerned, she brought Shizuo and Kasuka milk as one of those 'drink milk for strong bones' type of things. Queue a boy's first crush for an older lady being so nice.

Now imagine that crush being hassled and handled roughly at a later date. He didn't know that it was yakuza pressing for protection money and didn't even think. Once seeing that Shizuo sort of blacked out and came to his senses with everyone unconscious, the bakery a mess, door knocked in and the lady having been knocked out by stuff falling on her. His anger focused so much on stopping the men that, while they were completely incapacitated, he didn't take care of his surroundings. Out of guilt, as the lady had also gotten in trouble with her boss for this, Shizuo never went by the bakery again. Not that it ebbed his easily triggered temper.

Getting into middle school, now without one of his few friends, that temper made him a magnet for other students that were looking for a fight. After having beaten up some older students that were making fun of him, another older student, Tom Tanaka, approached and managed to help him bring those students to the hospital. Tom treated him to dinner and suggested Shizuo dye his hair blond so that a reputation could be built upon that and people wouldn't target him as much. While drowsing off one day, Shizuo heard the older students praising Tom for 'taming' him, which just got them told off by Tom. He also heard them planning an attack, after Tom left, to trap Shizuo into doing what they wanted. Guess who got the beat down. Yeah, it was those assholes. It helped for a little bit, but eventually the older students cornered Tom and had been fighting him for a while until Shizuo showed up and shut that down. Why didn't Tom just get Shizuo to keep near and fight for him? Because he's a decent dude and knew Shizuo hated violence, and decided that Shizuo shouldn't fight. So from then on, Shizuo dyed his hair and Tom's advice held up. The rest of middle school was peaceful.

Then Raijin Academy happened.

Good news was that his friend, Shinra, was attending the same school as him again. Though he was even weirder than before and had his own friend from middle school attending as well. Immediately, during their introduction to each other, Shizuo hated the guy. The fact that a huge group of guys had some nonsensical reason for attacking him on the soccer field might have something to do with it. Not just because he was applauding, but that he thought they could have fun, after what just happened. It pissed Shizuo off, so he went to punch him, which Izaya dodged and suddenly cut him with a knife.

It set a trend of people targeting Shizuo, him kicking their asses, and then trying to kill Izaya for (probably) being the one behind it all. That usually led to a chase through the city and sometimes a truck hitting Shizuo and knocking him out for a little bit, and then both of them at Shinra's place to get fixed up. Rinse and repeat. Not even White Day was safe. A love letter, asking to meet on the grounds, showed up in his shoe box. While having a good idea that it was a trick, especially when all the guys had that same letter, Shizuo went to the meeting place because is brother said that he should cherish every letter received. It was a trap, of course. Some senior students that had gotten into trouble has also received letters and now believed he was behind the prank. Shinra, who tagged along, was going to clear the air, but one of the seniors threw a brick at Shizuo's face and they were thrown into each other. The day would be known as 'Bloody White Day' for everyone that was in Raijin at that time. Fifty students were hospitalized and Shizuo ended his school year with a suspension until Closing Ceremonies. It was the end of the school year, but that wasn't the end of horrible 'pranks' that led to violence. It wasn't long in the next school year that chlorine gas started to fill the halls and more students from other schools would show up to start fights.

Appearance: Image reference Given that Shizuo's full adult height is 6'1", it'd be safe to determine that at 16 he'd be about 5'10". Due to the way his body is being conditioned, despite the strength that will be covered in the powers section, his build is incredibly lithe as he's also between 125-135lbs. Shizuo's natural hair is wavy and dark mousy brown, but it's been dyed blond and is regularly straightened. It's said that despite his age and build, he still looks 'pretty mature'. Enough to get taken for someone that was 18 or older under the right circumstance.
Personality: One of the constants about Shizuo, in both high school and his adult life, is that people would be warned about a violent temper. Literally violent, that is. When provoked, verbally or physically, it's easy for him to get angry. Then he has little clue of what his actions are until the anger subsides a little, where people and things are usually broken around him. Let's be clear though, despite this, Shizuo hates violence. Always has, and hated it more after this rage issue came up. But in all actuality, all he ever really wants is a peaceful life.

Perhaps it stands out all the more because of how normal he was otherwise. In middle school, his friend would consider him surprisingly normal and conservative, and he hadn't changed too much from that. He valued his family, down to the point where he used to think that dying his hair wouldn't be right, as he should honor the hair color his parents gave him. If it weren't for certain events that made him realize how important a peaceful life was, he wouldn't have dyed his hair blond as per Tom's advice.

Speaking of, he also holds a great importance towards the lesson and advice received from family, friends and teachers. He was taught to be quiet in a library, so Shizuo keeps his voice down in one, no matter how angry. His little brother, Kasuka, said that Shizuo was bad with words and should cherish every letter he received, so he went to a meeting place that was in a love letter, despite knowing it was a trap. You're taught not to hit or hurt women, and he would never lose his temper so much as to hurt them (though accidents have happened and he probably wouldn't hesitate in damaging something of theirs instead.) Even more, it was easily to keep his head cool around women, though whether or not it was related to something he was taught could be debated. When young, he was given milk and told to drink it and get strong because of how he used to always go around with broken bones. After what happened in the bakery, the milk was a comfort but also a huge reminder that he had to do better. So he would always drink milk when stewing in something that was upsetting him and developed enough of a taste to drink 6 bottled glasses in one meal.

A lot of these things are true for Shizuo, both as a teenager and when he's an adult. Perhaps it's a bit of a traditional/conservative personality, his preferences are a little more childish. Not just hating Izaya, which is both instinctual and warranted (see 'Bloody White Day' in history section.) He likes dairy products and has a sweet tooth, enough to want to go into one of those date cafes, but wouldn't go in alone because it seemed like that wasn't something you do at those kinds of establishments. He also admires and likes watching martial artists fight, because unlike him they trained. Just as simple, he hates violence (as noted in the beginning,) and bitter foods. Heck, the main thing he likes to do is bask in the sun. Which probably shows that in line with him wanting a peaceful life is one where he doesn't have to do much either.

Really, the main thing that was different between this Shizuo and the adult is that he still seems to have hope for normal things. Instead of thinking as 'someone like me,' he's more to blame the 'weird people' in his life, being Shinra and Izaya, for having the bad luck that he does. He's even said on White Day that the reason he didn't have a girlfriend was because those two were around all the time. So he doesn't think along the lines 'of course someone like me' doesn't have relationships or isn't included, or 'despite someone like me' when he is a part of something. With only a year of shattered peace, he seems to have the hope of there being a chance it could return.

Abilities: When Shizuo first lost his temper and tried to throw a fridge at his brother, later ending up in a hospital, his friend Shinra had a theory. See, Shinra's father was a doctor and the kid already had medical knowledge and experience. His theory was that Shizuo's adrenaline shot up so high and easily that he was able to lift the appliance. Much like those other stories where people push up incredible heavy objects, such as cars or large rubble, in dire times. It's just that he got to that a lot easier, and the adrenal gland would account for how violent he was. So everything could be nutshelled into the explanation of an overactive adrenal gland and conditioning. Or you could also say that he's a very pretty and not-green Hulk.

Because of this condition, there probably hasn't been a bone that wasn't broken and few muscles that weren't torn. It's happened so quickly and often that the bones and muscles grew more dense and stronger, to where it was a lot harder for those injuries to occur again. Which is also why, despite the strength to rip up soccer goals and signs out from the ground, and throw people into one another, he wasn't bulky. Also with his strength, he's used it to keep up and follow someone adept at parkour, though he's still in the beginning stages of this. It's still something that was utilizing this power over any kind of skill. Also, because of all the constant damage, he has an incredibly high tolerance to pain. Enough that, given how thorough some breaks were, it wouldn't be too large a leap to consider actual nerve damage. It doesn't stop him getting cut or stabbed, but he's more likely to notice injuries by visual cues.

While an unusual and extraordinary circumstance, Shizuo's still a normal human. In terms of reduction for Holly Heights, as it's conditioning and results from injuries, I'd like the density and pain tolerance to remain. However, the strength is still a little too much, even at this age. So I figured that would be reduced to something more believable. Less 'rip a sign post out with all of its grounding cement' and more that it could be dented and durable things could be dented with the high rush of adrenaline. So strong, but not strong like that guy that can pull a monster truck with a chain in his teeth. Probably closer to what you see in strength-based fighters. Human limits.

First Person:
[ Think of it as one of those May days; where the weather should feel nice, as it's pretty warm and there's not a cloud in the sky. Except the wind is dead in the air and the humidity is high to the point where, not only does it feel even warmer, but it'd just uncomfortable. Add a school jacket on top of that, even though a bright blue isn't too bad against the sun. It's just that suddenly being in this weather, in a strange place, has left someone incredibly annoyed. To be more accurate, it's his immediate actions from showing up and consequently getting lost is what would do it more.

Which is why this 5'10" teenage boy with bottle-blond hair is going around with a scowl. There's no pretense of pleasantries when he tries to get some answers, either. Though because he knew it wouldn't be fair to lash out against strangers, Shizuo kept his tone a little closer to neutral compared to how he was feeling.
]

Hey, you know what the hell I'm doing in this place?

Third Person:
The more this person talked, the more irritated Shizuo felt. Didn't he just say that this was all probably some kind of mistake? He could even handle misunderstandings, with them having happened a lot this past year in Raijin. What he couldn't handle was someone ignoring what he said before and telling him off. It sucked!

Which is why he tried staying where he was, rooted next to the fountain, clenching his teeth harder the more that his anger grew. The person continued talking about what happened for the second time, though it already felt like he heard this ten times more. All he was doing before was chilling in the park, listening to the fountain and enjoying the sun. Just because he sat up when the guy shouted in surprise, and was the only one in immediate sight, suddenly all of the blame was on him. In a final attempt to keep his peaceful life here, Shizuo tried to interrupt the guy with an "oi," though it seemed to not be loud enough to cut through the rant, which seemed like it was taking that 'I'll teach you a lesson' route he's seen before. Expecting it to happen again, that just pissed him off more. Perhaps too much.

"I said I'm not involved, didn't I?," he angrily interrupted, raising his voice over the other. Unfortunately, while he wasn't aware of it, he was making a violent reach for the older man's collar.
